A 33-year-old Nkulumane woman has been fined $100 for possessing pornographic material that was discovered in her purse after she had gone to make a police report for theft.
Sukoluhle Dube escorted police to her ex-boyfriend Clemence Moyo’s house after he had allegedly assaulted her and stolen her purse containing the pornographic material.
After Moyo was arrested, police found two pornographic discs in Dube’s purse and she confirmed that they were hers, but did not know that it was a crime to possess them.
She was immediately arrested.
Dube appeared before magistrate Temba Chimiso yesterday facing a charge of possession of prohibited articles.
Prosecuting, Mitchelle Chiboiwa said Dube’s discs were prohibited, obscene and indecent.
The court heard that Dube went to Nkulumane Police Station in August to report Moyo who had physically assaulted her and stolen her purse. When Moyo was located, he was arrested and in the stolen purse police found two pornographic discs.
Dube pleaded guilty to the charges.
“Your worship, I admit that the discs were mine but I wasn’t aware that it was an offence to possess such discs. May you please forgive me,” said Dube.
Magistrate Chimiso fined her $100 and if in default she will spend 30 days in prison.
