“I USED to watch pornography at home and felt like imitating what I had seen.” Those were words of a 14-year-old Bulawayo boy from Nkulumane who appeared in court on Wednesday charged with indecent assault on his 18-year-old neighbour. Western Commonage Magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo told the boy, who cannot be named as he is a minor, and is doing Form Three at a local school, to concentrate more on his books than making sexual advances on older women.
He told the lad: “Your behaviour was deplorable and you have caused a lot of distress on this young woman. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
Prosecuting, Kingston Mukanganwi told how early last month the teenage boy visited his 18-year-old neighbour for a chat and found her alone in the afternoon.
After talking for some minutes the boy grabbed his unsuspecting victim, dragged her to a sofa and unbuttoned her blouse pushing her to the ground, the court heard.
He fondled her breasts and started simulating sexual moves. He then threatened to stab her if she told anyone about the incident, prosecutors say.
On being quizzed why he committed the crime, the boy said he was influenced by pornography.
“I was watching pornography on my brother’s disc and I felt like imitating what I had seen on the disc,” he told the shocked magistrate.
The boy was cautioned and discharged.
It is a crime to possess and consume pornographic material under Zimbabwean law.
