Cop up for rape of teenage ex-girlfriend

A  Police officer stationed at Hatfield Police Station in Harare has appeared before a Gweru magistrate facing a charge of raping his ex-girlfriend, a 17-year-old girl.  Gemo Malombo, 23, whose home address was given as Insukamini Growth Point in Lower Gweru but is a police constable stationed at Hatfield Police Station in Harare pleaded not guilty to a rape charge when he appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga.

He was remaanded in custody to Monday next week.
For the State, Daniel Tapfuma told the court that on  October 14, 2013, Malombo who was not at work lured the teenager who is the complainant to accompany him to Insukamini dam for a fishing expedition.

The court heard that while on the way to the dam, Malombo sought to mend their affair which had broken down but the teenager declined.

She told him that she had since moved on with her life. The court heard that when Malombo insisted that the two should become lovers again, the teenager decided to go back home but Malombo grabbed her and raped her once.

After the rape incident the girl went and told her mother who in turn proceeded and reported the matter to the police.
