Portuguese songstress Louisa Sobral wrapped up her Africa tour in style at the Harare International Festival of Arts on Wednesday. The multi-talented songstress’s last performance was at Lay’s Global stage at the festival where she bid farewell to her fans. Her act was outstanding, with the band exhibiting vast talent on various instruments.
“I play various instruments in the specific songs. I write songs that require specific instruments that is how I learn to play them,” she said.
Their act was marked by large doses of satire in their lyrics with the group giving their hilarious versions of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and Carly Rae’s “Call me Maybe” songs.
Speaking on their act Sobral said it was a way of challenging her creativity by “owning” the songs.
Their satire was also exhibited in “hate” relationships songs.
“My personal life inspires me of course. Also stuff that my friends tell me about their lives and stuff that I read and see in movies. I am writing more happy love songs though. It’s just that I always find the sadness in love more beautiful and I don’t know why,” said the hilarious singer.
The band that is fresh from performing in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia as part of their 10 day tour said they were pleased to have performed in Zimbabwe.
The singer said their recipe behind their success with diverse audiences was interaction during performances
“I think people like it when you talk to them (during performances). That connection and how we have fun on stage also does the trick. We feel good and we love what we do,” she said
