THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has been hailed for complementing the E-government programme through providing access to information communication technologies.
POTRAZ donated 160 computers to the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare to digitalise the ministry yesterday.
Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Jenfan Muswere, said they want to digitalise the whole government system.
“It is very important for us as a country to be able to train civil servants so that they can utilise information communication technologies as we journey towards a digital economy which is now a reality.
“This will ensure that there is improved service delivery in promoting the interests of citizens.
“This first phase of donation will ensure that the vision of the paperless government in the Ministry becomes a reality. We hope this will extend to other departments,” he said.
The Minister said to ensure that no place is left behind, Government departments should be at the forefront of digitalising.
“This means the issue of ghost workers has come to an end. We have also ensured that the disabled are also part of the digital economy through providing assistive software technology.
“Our core mandate is to ensure that we connect the unconnected, train the people and provide the necessary digital gadgets for us to create a functional digital ecosystem,” said Minister Muswere.
