The QoS measurement equipment will assist the telecommunications regulatory body to monitor the quality of service delivery by Econet, NetOne and Telecel.
“We are engaging the tender board to procure the high tech equipment although we are currently at the tender stages of that process. We hope that the awarding of this tender will be made before the end of the year.
“The equipment will assist us to curb poor service delivery and ensure that mobile service operators provide top-notch service to their subscribers,” said Eng Sibanda.
He said the equipment will enable Potraz to measure the values of essential QoS parameters nationwide.
The information gathered will then allow Potraz to engage the service providers on deficiencies and inadequacies observed in an effort to rectify them.
“This move comes after the realisation by Potraz that mobile operators are under-performing through unreliable and poor service delivery.
“Potraz wants to assess the quality of service throughout the country.
“We have a problem with our operators who brag about having the largest number of subscribers while their customers are constantly complaining about poor service delivery,” said Eng Sibanda.
He said Potraz was aware that some areas in the country were experiencing drops in network, with subscribers cut off in the middle of crucial conversations.
Eng Sibanda said the regulatory board had last year engaged a consulting firm to carry out QoS measurements whose results they intended to use to enforce improved standards but they had since established that this would be an unviable option.
His comment comes after the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology declared that he would put in place measures to eradicate poor service delivery by mobile network operators.
