Power Sales Schools Rugby extravaganza kicks off

RUGBY enthusiasts will be in for a treat this afternoon when the annual Power Sales Schools Rugby Festival opens at Hartsfield Rugby Ground.The tournament will played over three days and will end on Saturday.

This year’s competition has attracted a good number of schools taking part which has forced the organisers to increase from the traditional two days.

The Botswana Under-19 national rugby will be the guest team for the event. Botswana will play tomorrow and on Saturday.

They will clash with Midlands Christian College (MCC) tomorrow and then Christian Brothers College (CBC) the following day in a match that is expected to attract a huge crowd.

Tournament director Kizito Muhomba said the stage is set for one of the biggest schools rugby extravaganza in schools calendar which is bankrolled by clothing outlet Power Sales.

“We are starting tomorrow afternoon (today) and everything is in place for the tournament, we are raring to go,” said Muhomba.

Exciting displays are expected from Botswana Under-19, CBC, Petra, Plumtree, Churchill, MCC, Prince Edward, Milton and Allan Wilson. Bulawayo teams, Pumula, Nkulumane, Sikhulile and Sobukhazi are also taking part in the event.

This year’s competition will see the introduction of girls’ rugby with Goromonzi, Pumula, Nkulumane and Girls High School from Harare all expected to field their teams.

Muhomba said they expect over 60 matches to be played in three days.

Day One fixtures:

Field A

CBC 2 v Milton 2, Gifford 2 v Prince Edward 2,     CBC 3 v Eastview, Sikhulile v Goromonzi (Girls), Msiteli v Northlea.

Field B

Gifford Under-16 v Milton Under-16, Petra Under-16 v CBC Under-16, Northlea v Sobukhazi. (Girls), Entumbane Under-16 v East View Under-16, St Columbas Under-16 v CBC Under-16
