POWERLIFTING fans are in for a treat tomorrow when Dynamics Gym hosts the inaugural Short Base Classic Powerlifting competition.
A total of 15 power lifters are set to battle it out for top honours in the squat and chest events.
Powerlifting is a strength sport and in competition, a power lifter stands alone on a platform and tries to lift the heaviest weights he is capable of. Competitors will start lifting from 100kg upwards. National powerlifting coach Simon Gama said he was happy most gyms were beginning to recognise powerlifting as a serious sport.
“The initiative by gyms to come up with these competitions is great for the sport. We are very happy that powerlifting is being taken seriously. As a coach, it also gives me the opportunity to look for national team athletes at these competitions. We also encourage more body builders and fitness enthusiasts to join this growing sport,” said Gama.
