The rapper earlier this month released the track, titled Imperial, in memory of the rapper who passed away in 2003. Kingpin, who gained acclaim in South Africa for his intelligent lyricism, is regarded as one of the best rappers to come out of Zimbabwe.
In an interview POY said that plans for the video were already in the pipeline, with a number of local artistes and dance groups set to take part.
“We will feature a lot of young, up and coming dance groups in the video because the aim is to promote young artistes here in Bulawayo.
“Guest artistes who will feature in the video will include the likes of Tenh Diamond and Kasi Lunatics which I hope will be an illustration of our solidarity as Bulawayo artistes,” he said.
POY said he was putting a lot of effort into promoting the song and video because of the influence that Kingpin had on his own career.
He said work on his new album, Nothing for Mahala, had already started, with some of the best producers and artistes in the city asked to lend their skills for the project.
“The new album will feature a lot of collaborations and that is a deliberate effort on my part to show the growth of Bulawayo as a powerful hip hop hub. The artistes that will be featured include Tehn Diamond, Junior Brown, Ice Rockspin, Alka Nemo and Outspoken among many others,” said POY.
POY is set to collaborate with renowned Harare freestyle rapper, Munetsi, who is set to land in the city this week. The move is part of the rapper’s efforts to build hype for his upcoming album.
