Last month, fans of kwaito star PoZee were surprised when pictures of him bed-ridden surfaced on social media, with his label, Kas-No-Valo giving no further information as they wished him a speedy recovery after an operation for an undisclosed illness.
It was a shock for many, as instead of pictures of the lyricist in a recording booth preparing a new hit, they received images that suggested that the wordsmith was down and out.
A month after those shock posts, PoZee has disclosed that the pictures were taken in the aftermath of his operation in Botswana.
Unknown to many, PoZee has been suffering from haemorrhoids for the past seven years and was referred to a doctor in Botswana after a local medical practitioner that had been treating him said they had reached an advanced stage.
Haemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lowest part of the rectum and anus. Sometimes the walls of these blood vessels stretch so thin that the veins bulge and get irritated.
Swollen haemorrhoids are also commonly referred to as piles. PoZee, who had the operation on 7 February, said the ailment was hereditary.
a?Iave had haemorrhoids for more than seven years and inherited them from my father who also went through the same operation years ago.A The doctor who had been treating me in Zimbabwe referred me to a surgeon in Botswana last year on 24 December after she discovered that my haemorrhoids were at an advanced stage,a? said PoZee in an interview.
The wordsmith, who is due for a mandatory review on 24 May, added that he was now mobile after a tough few weeks following the operation which left him bedridden.
a?The recovery has been very good thanks to my family, because Iam as good as new now. I was in a lot of pain after the operation although my stay in Botswana was so nice that I was actually disappointed when I was discharged,a? said PoZee.
PoZee said his illness had seen him put away the mic for a while, but it would not stop him from pushing artistes under his Kas-No-Valo imprint.
a?As things stand Iam working behind the scenes and Iam fully focused on artistes under my label and that is where I have chosen to invest my time and money. Right now I want to push Skhuas single Sbusiso and Aminaas album. These projects are taking most of my time, focus and attention,a? he said.
However, PoZee, who arrived in Bulawayo last week after weeks of recovery in Botswana, added that he was not done as a musician just yet as even in sickness he never neglected his pen and pad.
a?Music is my life and Iam always writing something wherever I am. People shouldnat be surprised to hear something from me before the year is done. However, my doctor told me in order to fully heal and recover I needed at least three months,a? said the kwaito star who also became a father for the first time last year.
