BULAWAYO-based kwaito musician Mbekezeli Mpofu, popularly known as PoZee, has released a love single titled Higher Than Number One.
The kwaito artiste collaborated with Willis WaTaffi and P-J Flames on the song, in his quest to reclaim his position as the city’s best kwaito musician.
This is his second single taken from Kasi Lami Art Platform singles compilation CD2.
He said the song is dedicated to his love.
“There is no greater joy than finding and having that one true love, the apple of your eye, which you have longed for in the midst of all the unfaithfulness.
“Fans should look forward to this song. It is one of the best songs that I have released,” he said.
PoZee rose to fame in 2003 when he featured in his sister Sikhululekile “Skhu” Mpofu’s album titled Owami.
He released his first album Kas-lami, which featured hits like Hamba Nobani, in 2004.
His second album Mina leKwaito was released in 2007 featuring hits such as Iz’gebengu Zami, maMthombeni and Day by Day.
PoZee took a long break from the local music scene following the release of the second album, a move he attributed to economic challenges.
“I took a break because things were not working out in Zimbabwe. I moved from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls where I started running a restaurant before I moved to Botswana then Mozambique in order to work on some music collaborations.”
He resurfaced with a hit single Jaiva Njengomuntu Olemali last year.
The dreadlocked artiste bemoaned lack of effective marketing strategies for music in the country, a trend that he said has kept kwaito suppressed.
“I chose to market my music outside the country because most of my projects have not been locally handled to my satisfaction,” he said.
