PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday said Government had established a ministry responsible for psycho-motor activities to ensure that pupils acquire practical life skills.President Mugabe said this at the burial of his sister Bridget at their rural home at Kutama Village in Zvimba.
President Mugabe said his two sisters Sabina and Bridget were gifted differently but the former had managed to acquire her own properties by using the practical skills she acquired.
“In the end we had a Sabina who was more self reliant and a Bridget who was less self reliant more dependent on bhudhi. Eehee anga achigara neni kuState House. Kuzvitengerawo imba, ah haana mari. Sabina akaita tumagroups twake twevakadzi vanosona and making money, she was able to buy a house you see.
“That’s why we say our education must have what I have termed a psycho-motor element. That’s why I am saying our education must have the psycho-motor elements.
“If you get an education and that education does not enable you to do things that education is hollow and we don’t want hollow education and that’s why we have a minister who should ensure that the psycho-motor element in our education is vibrant,” he said.
Cde Josaya Hungwe is the minister of State for Liaising on Psycho-Motor Activities in Education. He said while the colonial education was discriminatory, it however, provided with life skills that enabled those less gifted academically to venture into other fields like carpentry, building and agriculture.
He said while he had chosen the teaching profession he has always had an interest in agriculture. President Mugabe said he had never forced his siblings to join the liberation struggle saying they did so of their own volition.
He said Bridget had suffered the most because of her political activism.
“She suffered a lot much more than Sabina, she suffered achiri kuMamina kwaaiticha kuMhondoro. She was beaten up pano pamba, the same because kwakazoita anaChikerema nanaGumbo Zanu-Zapu thing.

“Ndopanenyaya, kana maBritish havazivi chakavarova kuZimbabwe, it’s just that. The people want their land, the land belongs to us,” he said.
President Mugabe said Zimbabweans’ relationship with their resources was natural.
“If there is anything that makes you doubt that Zimbabwe’s land, its natural resources belong to the people of Zimbabwe, it’s a relationship which is natural which makes you the owners of your wealth therefore masters of your destiny.
“The others know they prevaricate, aah tinoda varungu tinoda vana (Eddie) Cross, tinoda vana (Roy) Bennett, to do what with the Bennetts and the Crosses?
“We don’t need them at all. Sure, we might need partners but we don’t need partners who become our masters,” President Mugabe said.
The President also expressed his gratitude to all people and medical personnel who had assisted his family during his sister’s illness.
Bridget was buried at the cemetery where her mother Ambuya Bona Mugabe, brothers Donato, Michael and Raphael who died in 2007, 1934 and 1922 respectively are also interred.
Bridget is survived by her daughter Lorraine and several grandchildren.
