It is not that I don’t believe in prosperity. No! God has destined us to prosper through Christ Jesus.
But, I believe that the gospel should be presented as a wholesome package.
Prayer enhances a believer’s individual relationship with God as it gives access to every Christian to fellowship with God through Jesus Christ.
Thus there should be no bishop or prophet and neither should there be an apostle or overseer between you and God. These people are good servants of God.
They are not intermediaries between you and God. There is only one mediator for us all — the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit, through the scriptures has given me privilege to see very clearly that the purpose of prayer is to glorify the name of God.
Scales have fallen from my eyes. I saw a new dimension that prayer can be ‘effectually fervent’, that is, powerful and effective or can be just a religious routine and ritual.
Just like other aspects of life, prayer life has fundamental principles that govern it. The fundamental law in prayer is that prayer is given and ordained for the purpose of glorifying God.
Prayer is an appointed way of giving Jesus an opportunity to exercise His supernatural powers of salvation and in so doing, He desires to make use of us.
What it means is that it will be to no avail unless we pray. One writer says, “The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying.
“The devil fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom but trembles when we pray.”
Therefore, if we do not understand that much about prayer, we will not be able to pray fervently and results will not come.
Prophet Elijah’s prayers in 1 Kings 17: 1; 18, 41-45 and James 5: 16-18 give examples of how we should pray in order to get results. When we pray, we will be seeking the will of God to represent Him on earth.
With this challenge, I provoke and remind Christians that prayer is the key to spirituality.
Ephesians 1: 3 tells us that God has already “blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ”.
How then do we tap into these blessings? Prayer is the key. In Mathew 16:19, Jesus says, “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven”.
In Mathew 17: 20, Jesus goes on to show us the key by saying: “Ye shall say unto this mountain . . . ” “Saying”, is prayer.
This is further explained in Matthew 18: 18-19, and we see that prayer is the key to anything and anything represents all blessings that God has blessed us with in Christ Jesus.
If the Church does not pray, the Church does not have the key.

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret — it leads only to evil.” (Psalms 37: 7-8)
