A prayer session ended tragically here on Sunday after a 22-year-old woman was fatally struck by a corrugated iron sheet blown by strong winds from the roof of a makeshift church.
The woman was part of the congregants at Revelation House Church who were holding a prayer session inside the makeshift church made up of corrugated iron sheets. The incident occurred around 3pm near Mashakada Business Centre in Dulibadzimu.
Matabeleland South police spokesman Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident yesterday and said the woman’s next of kin were yet to be advised.
“Indications are that the now deceased was part of people who were inside a structure made up of corrugated iron sheets,” he said.
“During the process there were strong winds which blew away the building, resulting in her being struck by some objects and collapsing.”
Insp Ndebele said the woman was then rushed to Beitbridge District Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. He advised people to make use of well-built structures rather than unnecessarily put their lives in danger.
“Now that we are in the rainy season, people should avoid some of these tendencies which put their lives at risk,” he said.
The incident comes a few years after a man from Dulibadzimu was killed when a huge branch fell on him while taking a siesta under a baobab tree near the same church site.
