A SPIRITUAL mission turned tragic after a man drowned at Bulawayo’s Hillside Dams just days before the Easter holidays.
Hopuleng Dube is believed to have sneaked into the dam area under the cover of night to conduct private prayers — but never made it out alive.

His lifeless body was retrieved earlier today by the Bulawayo Fire and Ambulance Services, drawing a stunned crowd of onlookers to the usually serene spot.
Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer, Mr Mhlangano Moyo, confirmed the grim incident.
As of this afternoon, police were yet to remove the body from the scene, with investigations underway.
While prayer vigils and night worship are common during the Holy Week, Hillside Dams is a no-go zone after dark, especially without clearance.
This tragedy casts a dark cloud over the Easter season, which usually sees an increase in spiritual activities — including water baptisms, overnight prayers, and pilgrimages.
B-Metro will continue to follow developments.
