Pre-budget seminar kicks off

Parliament is today conducting a pre-budget seminar to run for the next four days aimed at exchanging views between legislators, the Treasury and other stakeholders about the 2024 national budget that is set to be presented later this month.

The process being held at the iconic new Parliament building in Mt Hampden, will be led by Parliament’s portfolio committee on Budget and Finance while Treasury will be led by Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda delivered his opening remarks giving an overview of the seminar while Prof Ncube also addressed legislators giving a review of budget performance and his outlook on the country’s economy.

Various experts from different fields are also expected to address legislators while several portfolio committees will also deliver their views regarding the economic sectors that they shadow.

Discussions are expected to centre around the 2024 Budget Strategy Paper prepared by Treasury which gives the general direction of next year’s national budget.
