Pregnant woman assaulted over crate of soft drinks

A PREGNANT Bulawayo woman had to be rushed to hospital after she was allegedly struck in the abdomen with a crate full of soft drinks following a dispute over the crate of drinks. The woman suffered complications as a result of the assault.Mike Mhlanga (24) of House Number 2484 Emakhandeni in Bulawayo on Friday appeared before a local magistrate, Ms Gladmore Mushove, facing an assault charge. He was remanded out of custody to 19 August on $100 bail.

The prosecutor, Mr Shepherd Nhamburo said on 7 June, Mhlanga met the complainant, Ms Ntombenhle Ndlovu at a commuter bus terminus at the corner of Lobengula Street and 3rd Avenue.

The two then boarded the same kombi. The court was told that while inside the kombi, Mhlanga and Ms Ndlovu had a dispute over a crate of soft drinks as both claimed ownership of the drinks. During the altercation, Mhlanga became angry and picked up the crate before he struck Ms Ndlovu in the abdomen.

The pregnant woman sustained serious injuries that resulted in her having complications and she had to be rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention.

A report was made to the police leading to Mhlanga’s arrest.
