ZANU-PF Politburo member Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube who lost Makokoba National Assembly seat to Mr Gorden Moyo of MDC-T yesterday said he would not give up the fight for the constituency. In an interview, Rtd Col Dube, scoffed at reports that he fell ill after losing the poll and said the next five years would be an opportunity for him to sharpen his tactics for victory in 2018.
“The elections have come and gone and I accept the results. We now have to look into the future, because after five years we will have another election,” said Rtd Col Dube who is also the chief executive officer of Zimbabwe Defence Industries (ZDI).
“I hope we will do better than we have done. I hear some people were peddling rumours that I was hospitalised after losing, which is not true. I am here as you can see.
“What makes me happy is that my party Zanu-PF won overwhelmingly across the country although we did not do well here in Bulawayo.”
Rtd Col Dube said his passion for Bulawayo, especially Makokoba, would not die adding that he was prepared to work with the community and assist the needy where possible.
“I have passion for people in my constituency and I will never forsake them because I have lost the election. If I have strength I will continue assisting them.
“Because of this I thought before returning to Harare I should bid farewell to my constituency by contributing something to the less privileged,” said Rtd Col Dube.
“On Saturday I conducted a tour of Ekuphumuleni Old People’s Home, Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home and Jairosi Jiri where I donated food such as maize and sugar beans.
“I realised that the infrastructure at these centres is dilapidated and needs to be rehabilitated. Such institutions need to be assisted. I also want to thank those who assisted my campaign and urge them not to lose heart.”
Rtd Col Dube said Zanu-PF will continue working with Bulawayo residents even after losing all the seats in the city.
“I am certain that President Mugabe will never let this city down. He will keep his promise to revive Bulawayo industries. It is unfortunate that Bulawayo residents decided to vote for an opposition party, which is as good as a toothless bulldog,” said Rtd Col Dube.
“But we have to continue working to change people’s mindsets. We look for better things in Bulawayo and I congratulate those who won although there is very little that they will do to change the course of events.”
