Premier League consults lawyer on elections

The post of governor in charge of finance once held by Dynamos’ Harrison Mbewe and the vice president’s held by Hwange’s Joseph Zulu were to be contested.
Zifa called off elections because procedures in the nomination process had not been followed. Things were done outside the jurisdiction of the Charles Moyo electoral college which would have rendered it a futile exercise.

The calibre of the governors and their secretaries was exposed as it appears they did not know what procedures to follow.
Twine Phiri, the PSL boss and Zifa board member, confirmed yesterday that it had been resolved to have Hove and Maganga sharing notes on the subject.
“When Zulu was co-opted he was ratified by the board but it appears some now want elections because of a constitutional flaw that does not indicate how long one stays in an acting capacity.

“So we hope the issue will be ironed out when Hove and Maganga meet,” said Phiri.
Prior to the meeting PSL are alleged to have travelled to Swaziland to interview Fredrick Mgomezulu for the post held by Kenny Ndebele. The league had one of its best seasons last year with player registration done professionally. It was unlike in previous years where players’ papers were still being sneaked in, days after the transfer window had been closed.

Under Ndebele there has been stakeholder confidence in the PSL brand.
Phiri, in an interview yesterday, said he would defend Ndebele.

“See what the man has done, our league is now respected, we have sponsors and there is promise of more still to come. He has added value and we would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we were to let him go. He has been an asset to us,” said Phiri who has denied that he travelled to Swaziland to interview Mgomezulu.

Phiri, board member development Cuthbert Chitima, and their legal representative Hove, were in Swaziland three weeks ago where they are believed to have met Mgomezulu with a view to enticing him to replace Ndebele.

Mgomezulu and Ndebele are highly respected Caf and Fifa instructors.
Phiri said other than the elections issue, the meeting was just like any other with a set agenda and members sticking to it.
