THE Prime Minister, Cde Mugabe, will attend several functions during the Independence weekend and will travel to Bulawayo on Monday afternoon for a reception at State House.
According to a Government programme released yesterday, celebrations start tomorrow when the Prime Minister hosts a reception for primary school children at the National Sports Centre in Harare.
On Sunday afternoon he returns to the centre for another reception, and on Monday morning, he will attend a colourful ceremony to mark Zimbabwe’s third anniversary at Rufaro Stadium.
Later in the day Cde Mugabe flies to Bulawayo and will host a reception in the grounds of State House in Bulawayo.
President Banana will deliver a keynote speech at Rufaro Stadium on Monday 10.10am.
It is expected that several ministers and dignitaries who will officiate at various centres throughout the country will also read the presidential speech.
LESSONS FOR TODAY
- Independence celebrations are national events that should be enjoyed by all regardless of race, colour, creed or political affiliation.
- Being a national event, it should be celebrated in all corners of the country and the Second Republic under the leadership of President Mnangagwa has taken the initiative to decentralise the hosting of the celebration with Bulawayo hosting this year’s celebrations.
- Taking an inclusive approach to issues, fosters ownership and belonging. Whereas in the past, most of the activities were held in Harare, the same activities will now be held in Bulawayo and other cities and towns, and the President will get to interact with a cross section of people from Bulawayo.
