Dongo Sawmill 0-2 Caps United. CAPS United responded to the news that their leaders have thrashed out a rescue package for the team by beating Dongo Sawmill in this Castle Lager Premiership tie at Vengere yesterday.
The club’s owners, Twine Phiri and Farai Jere, announced on Friday that they had structured a deal that will bring a solution to the challenges that have been facing the Green Machine.
And, as if on cue, Mark Harrison and his men powered to a win that will delight their fans who have endured a torrid time of late.
Caps United took an early lead in the 13th minute when overlapping defender Valentine Musarurwa volleyed home from outside the box.
It could have been two, soon after, but veteran striker Leonard Tsipa failed to convert a clear chance by shooting wide.
Malawian international George Nyirenda then scored his second goal of the season to put the Green Machine firmly in control.
Harrison praised his men for their professional show.
“I’m happy the guys performed like true professionals. We came here for a battle and we fought perfectly. We did exactly what we had planned to do and decimated their spirit in first 30 minutes.
“We’re happy to get the three points. We did it in two phases, took control of things in the first 30 minutes, scoring the priceless goals and putting them at bay in the second half as they tried to bombard us.
“And, in the last 20 minutes, we took the play to them,” said Harrison.
Dongo head coach Shadreck Mugurasave blamed the defeat on the “costly mistakes by his defenders.”
“I really don’t understand it at all, we play well away, but things just don’t work when we play at home. I really don’t know what’s happening,” said the gaffer.
“It’s terrible to lose five consecutive matches at home.
“Maybe, it’s stage fright and pressure from supporters.”
The home fans, at the end, responded by calling for the coach’s head.
