Most schools are starting their mid-year exams tomorrow. Studying plays an important part in the attainment of good results. A good study can increase confidence, competence and self-esteem of a student. Here are some of the tips that might assist Learners as they prepare for these mid-year exams.
Social media
Take a break from social media once every now and again. So much happens on social media. This usually distracts the attention of many learners. Some learners end up following things that have nothing to do with their school work. It is therefore important for learners to take a break from social media platforms and concentrate on the core business which is school work, reading and writing. Social media is addictive and for a learner, taking a break from social media means a lot in terms of research and study.
Find a peaceful place to study
If a student wants to concentrate he or she should look for a place that is ideal for reading. This will make the student concentrate on what he or she will be reading.
This place should not have destructing smells; it must have fresh air so that the student isn’t disturbed by the bad odour. It is also important to make sure that the lighting isn’t bad so that you don’t strain your eyes when reading. Make sure the room isn’t too cold or hot.
Take down notes
This is very important because it enables the learner to understand what he or she was reading. Practice old examination papers, applying what you were reading.
Have an organised system in place
Set your alarm and decide when you want to go to bed. Wake up at the stipulated time and start reading. Having an organised reading programme makes a learner disciplined and focused. Make this habit every day. Those learners who cannot wake up in the evening can devise an organised programme at a time they are comfortable with.
Manage school stress
A learner should be able to manage the classroom environment and school gossip. So much happens in the classroom. Some learners might laugh at your wrong answers, some might look down upon you, etc. All this affects learners. A learner might sit at the back of the classroom because of fear, some might be bullied, some might even laugh at a certain learner because of one’s complexion or structure. One might not have a proper uniform or might stammer when talking. Some might even speak the broken language. A student should not be deterred by all these negative events that happen at school. Remain determined and believe in yourself. Remember each and every individual has strengths and weakness. No one is perfect, so don’t make people’s opinions define you.
Plan your examination day
This is always important. Make sure you are aware of the dates and times when your examinations are going to be written. Copy the timetable and always revisit it time and again so that you won’t forget the day and time when you are going to write your examination. Know the length of your examination.
Make sure you carry two or three ballpens to use in the exams. If your examination requires a pencil, a rubber and a ruler carry these items. Don’t sleep in the examination room. Remember cheating and talking aren’t allowed, if you want anything, communicate with the invigilator. After finishing the examination don’t revise, instead prepare for the next examination.
