A 60-year-old Inyathi man who could not control his sexual appetite and raped a 98-year-old granny after asking for water at her homestead has been arrested.
The incident occurred on 18 November last year in the Goodhope area of Inyathi, Matabeleland North Province when 60-year-old Thembinkosi Ncube was arrested for allegedly raping the 98-year-old granny.
He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Dambudzo Malunga last week and was remanded in custody to 14 July.
He was charged with rape as defined in Section 65 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
The State’s case as presented by the prosecutor, Ms Tarisai Mutarisi was that on 18 November last year at about 3pm in the Goodhope area, the 98-year-old complainant was preparing her lunch when Ncube entered her homestead and asked for water.
The court heard that the complainant gave him water to drink and he went away.
A few minutes later, the State told the court, he came back and the complainant asked if he had left anything for which he replied that he was satisfied with the water that she had given him and now wanted to quench his thirst for sex.

The court heard that the complainant was shocked at Ncube’s lack of respect. Without wasting time he force-marched her into her kitchen hut while threatening to kill her.
It was that State’s case that, he pulled a knobkerrie from the jacket that he was wearing and the complainant complied with his orders.
The prosecutor further told the court that when they got inside the kitchen hut the accused Ncube drew a machete from his jacket again and pushed the complainant to the floor where he raped her once.
Ncube ran away after the incident and the complainant went and told her neighbour who then organised a team to track him down but they failed to locate him.
A report was made to the police in Inyathi the following day.
Ncube’s luck ran out after he raped yet another village woman barely 10 days after he raped the 98-year-old granny.
On the second count, the State heard that on 26 November last year in the same Goodhope area at about 4pm Ncube allegedly raped a 38-year-old woman who was cultivating her field in the company of her daughter.
The State alleges that Ncube arrived from behind holding a hoe and clearly indicated to the complainant that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her and that if she refuses, he was going to behead the complainant and her daughter.
The court was told that he dragged the complainant for a short distance from her daughter but within the field and raped her once.
He threatened the complainant with death if she screamed.
After committing the crime Ncube ran away and left his hoe at the scene. The complainant reported the case to the village head who then took the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Ncube.
