The Zimbabwe Heroes Shrine and Education Trust (ZIHSSET) has called on Zimbabweans to preserve the gains of the liberation struggle, to safeguard and protect its heritage.

The organisation provides education to Zimbabweans on history, heritage and cultural traditions, especially targeting the youths.

The director of the organisation, Mr Edwin Katsande, said they were working with war veterans on decolonialism and the liberation struggle.

“We work to ensure that people have a proper history about Zimbabwe, so we do research and educate people about the liberation of Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We also work on site shrines in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique, and we conduct educational tours for young leaders from all sectors of society, which include child parliamentarians, youth leaders from all political parties, youth church leaders, institutions of higher learning and the informal sector,” he said.

Mr Katsande said their organisation will lobby Government to implement legislation and policy decisions that uphold the national objectives with regards to culture and heritage, as spelt out in the constitution of Zimbabwe.

“Zimbabwe is on a cross roads in all fronts be it political, economic, social and cultural to the fact that we have lost our national values and ethos, as long as we do not educate the young generation, the future of the country will be destroyed,” he said.

“The liberation struggle was never won on partisan grounds, but was a national cause, that is the reason why ZANLA forces and ZIPRA forces were fighting from different fronts to fight one enemy.”

This week, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between ZIHSSET and the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe.
