President Mnangagwa has approved salaries for lecturers and other staff members working in the country’s higher and tertiary education institutions.

The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development has revealed that it requires over ZiG46 billion to fully finance its operations and ensure the smooth running of universities and vocational colleges nationwide.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Professor Fanuel Tagwira stated that the approved salaries have already been factored into the proposed 2026 budget.

Professor Tagwira made these remarks while giving oral evidence before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher and Tertiary Education during National Budget consultations.

“In the budget we are presenting, we have included the salaries approved by His Excellency.

“The second key issue is construction. We have new institutions in Gwanda, Marondera, and Manicaland. We are still constructing new institutions.

“Additionally, we have opened Plumtree Polytechnic and Hwange Polytechnic, and due to the resolution that was made for every province to have a secondary school teacher training college, we are now going to transform some of the colleges that were previously training primary school teachers to also train secondary school teachers.
