Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda, made the announcement in the Government Gazette.
“The following law, which has been assented to by His Excellence the President, is published in terms of section 51 (5) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe,” read the notice.
The law seeks to impose stiffer penalties on people who vandalise or are found in possession of State power, railway, broadcasting and communication equipment.
A person convicted of the crime faces 10-year-jail term, lose the property and is liable to pre-trial imprisonment.
The regulations would also require a police clearance certificate for transportation of power, communication, broadcasting and water equipment.
Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Patrick Chinamasa, who steered the Bill during debate in Parliament, said the regulations would amend the Postal and Communications Act, Electricity Act, Railways Act, Broadcasting Services Act, Water Act and the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.
The law is expected to go a long way in curbing vandalism, a scourge that has seen most parastatals failing to efficiently provide service delivery.
