President challenges councils to deliver services

President Mnangagwa has challenged local authorities to step up in their quest to deliver services drawing lessons from their past experiences.

Speaking during an interaction with local authorities in Harare, President Mnangagwa said the theme of the meeting ‘A call to action, no compromise to service delivery’ provides an opportunity to deliberate on issues affecting councils.

“Now is not the time to dwell in the past. We must instead move forward for the benefit of all our people,” he said.

“Councils remain the engines that drive our subnational and national development agenda.”

Mayors, chairpersons, councillors, town clerks, town secretaries and chief executive officers were among the delegates who interacted with the President.

The interaction was hosted by the Ministry of Local Government and  Public Works, accommodating all the country’s 92 local authorities comprising 32 urban councils and 60 Rural District Councils.
