Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Frederick Shava has challenged the country’s diplomats to maintain high standards and adapt to new ways in pursuit of the country’s foreign policy goals to meet the Second Republic’s aim of achieving an upper-middle-class society by 2030.
Minister Shava said this yesterday while officially opening the senior management and ambassadors retreat and strategic planning and review workshop that began on Monday.
“I was adjudged as the Second-Best Performing Minister at the 2022 Performance Evaluation Results for Cabinet Ministers and Senior Government officials by His Excellency Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa. This award is a reflection of our hard work in advancing Zimbabwe’s foreign policy to achieve the Second Republic’s aspirations of an empowered Upper-Middle- Income Society by 2030.
“You, and the entire staff of the Ministry, are the winners of this award. I am grateful for the competence with which you have been approaching your work. But of course, the day we stop evolving and improving is the day we become redundant. I am therefore hopeful that during our deliberations, we will come up with innovative ways to enhance our delivery and plug any holes that hinder the performance of our duties. This year, we must double down on our efforts with a view to winning the coveted top post in the 2024 Performance Evaluation,” he said.
The theme for the retreat is: “Consolidating Zimbabwe’s Position Globally through Re-Affirmation, Engagement and Re-engagement for Sustained Economic Growth.”
The Minister said coming on the heels of the Zanu PF National Conference in Gweru, the workshop should draw its strategic direction from the resolutions of the ruling Party in all its deliberations.
“That is why we schedule it that way. And that is why we now routinely ensure your participation at the Conference,” Minister Shava said.
