President congratulates Zuma

PRESIDENT Mugabe has congratulated his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma for winning last week’s general elections after his party, the African National Congress (ANC), garnered 62 percent of the total votes.
President Mugabe commended the people of South Africa for maintaining peace and displaying exemplary conduct during the election period.
“The government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe join me in conveying to you, Your Excellency, as well as to the brotherly people of South Africa, our hearty congratulations following your resounding victory in the May 2014 general elections,” said President Mugabe.

“The ANC’s resounding victory attests to the trust and confidence the people of South Africa have bestowed on its leadership. It is further endorsement of the excellent work you are performing to uplift the lives of the ordinary people of South Africa.”

President Mugabe expressed a desire for the consolidation of all forms of co-operation between the two countries.
“My country stands ready to work closely with South Africa within the context of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) in addressing the common challenges we face as a region and continent.

“I wish you, Your Excellency and dear brother, a successful new term in office, personal good health as well as peace and continued progress for the people of the Republic of South Africa,” said the President.

“Allow me, Your Excellency and dear brother, to extend to you the assurances of my highest considerations.”
The ANC garnered 62 percent of the total votes, crushing its fierce rival the Democratic Alliance (DA) which settled for 22 percent of the total votes.

The new comers, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) led former ANC Youth League leader, Julius Malema, got 6.35 percent of the total votes.
