PRESIDENT Mugabe has sent a message of condolence to the Chindori-Chininga family following the death of Guruve South legislator and former Cabinet minister Cde Edward Chindori-Chininga. Cde Chindori Chininga died in a car accident on Wednesday night. “The President and First Secretary of Zanu-PF Cde RG Mugabe, the Politburo, the Central Committee and the Zanu-PF Party as a whole wish to convey their deepest condolences to the Chindori-Chininga family and indeed to the whole nation at the untimely passing on of Cde Edward Chindori-Chininga. He had been a member of the party for a very long time,” Zanu-PF secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo said.
He said the party acknowledges the immense contribution Cde Chindori-Chininga made within the party, the country and that his good deeds would always be with people’s hearts.
Vice-President Cde Joice Mujuru, Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara, several Cabinet Ministers and other senior party and Government officials visited Mrs Linda Chininga and conveyed their condolences on Thursday.
Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister Saviour Kasukuwere and Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Cde Dickson Mafios also visited the Chininga homestead yesterday.
They briefed the widow on the position taken by the Mashonaland Central provincial committee to write to the Politburo to recommend Cde Chindori-Chininga for national hero status.
Cde Chindori Chininga is survived by his wife and three children.
His brother Victor Chininga said burial arrangement would be advised after Government decides on his late brother’s status. “We are waiting for the Government’s decision then we can inform you about the burial arrangements,” he said.
Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson Cde Dickson Mafios said: “We have decided to recommend for a national hero. At the moment, we have sent letters to the Politburo and we are waiting for its decision.”
In a condolence message sent to the family Zanu-PF national chairman, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said the demise of Cde Chindori-Chininga has not only devastated the Chindori-Chininga family, but shocked all the people who knew him.
He described Cde Chindori-Chininga as a principled man, courageous in his beliefs, hardworking, focused, honest, diligent and a man of destiny.
“I was privileged to work closely with him as my deputy in the then Ministry of Mines, Environment and Tourism. He was a performer par excellence hence his elevation to a full minister,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.
Cde Khaya-Moyo said Cde Chindori-Chininga loved his party and his country and his death was a great loss to the nation.
“Your loss is our loss as well. We grieve and mourn with you. You have lost a dependable companion, Zanu-PF has lost a tested cadre and Zimbabwe has been robbed of a faithful servant,” he said.
“In wishing you strength and staying power, may his soul anchor and rest in eternal peace”.
Mourners were gathered at his Christon Bank home and at Chininga homestead in Guruve. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
