Harare Bureau
President Mnangagwa has consoled the Mutsvangwa family following the death of their granddaughter Paida Nonica, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a road traffic accident.
She has since been buried in Harare. Paida was the granddaughter to Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa and Zanu-PF Secretary for Information Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa.
In a statement, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda conveyed the commiserations.
“On behalf of His Excellency the President, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and the entire Cabinet, Deputy Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Chief Directors and staff in the Office of the President and Cabinet, I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the Mutsvangwa family on the tragic and untimely passing on of Paida Nonica Mutsvangwa in a road traffic accident which occurred in Selous on 10th April, 2022.”
Meanwhile, speaking at the burial, mourners said departed Paida was an angel soul endowed with a genius mind and the greatest heart well beyond her fledgling tender age.
Her headmaster Richard Crook of Bishopslea School eulogised with a heavily pained soul: “Paida was a budding child prodigy. She has uniquely etched a page in my 43 years of professional teaching.
She was, without a shadow of doubt, inevitably destined for some useful and scintillating role, one way or the other, at the centre stage of the national drama of the ever-unfolding story of Zimbabwe”.
Fellow pupils, teachers, staff and parents of Bishopslea School joined mourners. The President despatched Mai Auxillia Mnangagwa, the First Lady, as well as Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to deliver words of fortitude and comfort.
Politburo members of the ruling party Zanu-PF, government ministers and political leaders of the opposition joined people from all of walks life in commiseration.
On social media, fellow nationals, friends from other countries and diplomats continue to mourn Paida.
