SADC Chairperson President Mnangagwa is expected to arrive here tomorrow for a crucial meeting with his counterpart, President Dr William Ruto of Kenya, who is also the East African Community (EAC) Chairperson.
The meeting will be held at the State House on Friday.
In an interview this afternoon, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ambassador Albert Chimbindi said the meeting between the two leaders will finalise the formal appointment of five facilitators to tackle to the issues of conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
It will also formally adopt the documents relating to the facilitators’ terms of reference and discuss the funding modalities for the team.
The five facilitators are former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Central African Republic President Catherine Samba-Panza, former Ethiopia President Sahle-Work Zewde and former Botswana President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.
Other senior officials expected to attend are African Union Commission Chair Mr Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, SADC Executive Secretary Mr Elias Magosi and EAC Secretary General Ms Veronica Nduva.
The meeting comes at a time when M23 rebels reportedly captured two provinces in North Kivu on Monday after fierce fighting with a local self-defence group, Wazalendo.
