President Mnangagwa has left for the Vatican City in Italy where he will hold a meeting with Roman Catholic Church leader, Pope Leo XIV.
He is accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Professor Amon Murwira; Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube; Deputy Chief Secretary for Presidential Communications in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr George Charamba, and other senior Government officials.

The President was seen off at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Kembo Mohadi; Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri; State Security Minister Lovemore Matuke; Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere; Harare Provincial Affairs Minister Charles Tavengwa, Services Chiefs and other senior Government officials.
In an interview, Prof Murwira said President Mnangagwa is going to Vatican City on a State visit.
“It is important to deepen our relations with the Vatican as it represents peace and understanding,” said Prof Murwira.

Zimbabwe and the Vatican City enjoy bilateral relations dating back to the liberation struggle.
The Catholic Church has footprints in the country’s social services through the construction of schools and hospitals.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mohadi is the Acting President.
