FAMONA, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived to lead a significant tree planting exercise today, accompanied by First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, who serves as the patron of Environment and Tourism.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the nation’s green spaces and commemorate the country’s independence.
Earlier this year, during the Independence Day celebrations, President Mnangagwa led Government officials and school children in planting 44 trees at Murambinda A Primary School.
This symbolic number represents Zimbabwe’s 44 years of self-rule. The initiative is part of the Legacy Plantations programme, which aims to plant 44 000 indigenous fruit trees across the Buhera district in honour of the nation’s independence.
Today’s tree planting exercise will see a total of 24 trees planted and is organized by the Zanu PF Department of Environment and Tourism. This event runs alongside the 21st Zanu PF National People’s Conference currently taking place at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre, highlighting the Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability amid ongoing discussions on national development.
