TODAY, President Emmerson Mnangagwa convened the 41st and final Cabinet meeting of the 2024 calendar year at State House in Harare.
The meeting comes at a crucial time as the Government reflects on a year marked by several significant initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Zimbabweans.

During his address, President Mnangagwa praised the Cabinet’s achievements, highlighting the successful coordination among ministers and the engagement in people-centred programmes. He expressed concern over the recurring absenteeism of ministers and senior officials from meetings, describing this behaviour as “untenable.” The President reiterated the importance of prioritising Cabinet business over other engagements.

Addressing the challenges of the El Niño-induced drought, he urged relevant ministries to expedite aid delivery and devise strategies to tackle logistics obstacles. He commended the Health and Child Care sector for its swift response to a cholera outbreak earlier this year and called for ongoing vigilance regarding health threats such as Mpox.

President Mnangagwa also underscored the need for improved renewable energy use to alleviate pressure on the national grid and announced continued government support for national housing programmes. The decentralisation and devolution agenda, which has enhanced the quality of life in health, education, and sanitation, was also highlighted as a key focus area.

As the Cabinet prepares to transition into 2025, the President reiterated the importance of advancing Vision 2030, encouraging ministers to balance their official duties with family and festive activities. He concluded by wishing his Cabinet members a happy holiday and a prosperous new year while commending the Chief Secretary and the secretariat for their efforts throughout the year.
