PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa officially launched the National Anti-Sanctions online petition in Bulawayo today, adding his signature to the platform.

The initiative aims to gather 1 million signatures from Zimbabweans both domestically and abroad, reflecting widespread discontent with the ongoing sanctions.

The launch coincides with the observance of SADC Anti-Sanctions Day on October 25, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the detrimental effects of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe for over two decades. The petition seeks to consolidate public opinion and push for the immediate lifting of these economic restrictions, which have severely hampered the country’s development and recovery efforts.

President Mnangagwa emphasised the importance of collective action in the fight against the illegal sanctions, saying they undermine the socio-economic well-being of the Zimbabwean people. He urged citizens to participate actively in the petition to highlight their demand for justice and self-determination.

The campaign has garnered support from various sectors of society, including civil society organizations and political groups, all united in the belief that the sanctions have had a punitive effects. The petition reflects a broader call for international solidarity and a renewed focus on Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.

As the country mobilises for this initiative, the hashtags #25October and #ZimSanctionsMustGo have gained traction on social media platforms, amplifying the message and encouraging global awareness of Zimbabwe’s plight.
