President Mnangagwa has officially launched Zimbabwe’s bid for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) non permanent seat for the period 2027 to 2028.

Speaking during the launch held in Harare today, the President said the country’s diplomatic legacy speaks for itself and the seat will not only be for Zimbabwe but the African continent at large.

He said if elected, Zimbabwe will promote global peace and security with focus on silencing the guns and driving anti-terrorism efforts.

President Mnangagwa then appealed to all members of the United Nations to support Zimbabwe’s candidature while appreciating the support already assured by SADC, AU and other progressive nations across the globe.

Zimbabwe’s campaign will run under the theme ‘Advancing 21st Century solutions for global peace and security through multilateralism’.

Elections for the seat will be held next year in June.

Zimbabwe has served in the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member twice.

It served during periods 1983-1984 and 1991-1992.
