PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has promoted Major General Thomas Moyo to the rank of Lieutenant General upon retirement after 46 years of service.
The promotion was conferred during an investiture ceremony held at Defence House in Harare today.
Speaking at the event, Commander Defence Forces, General Emmanuel Matatu, said the upgrade reflects loyalty and selfless service by the senior army officer.
“You are handing over your military kit, General, but you are remaining in the field. Generals do not retire into oblivion, and you will be called upon to serve in other capacities,” he said.
“I can also say that your loyalty, dedication to duty, attention to detail, and your operational capabilities are beyond reproach.”
Lieutenant General Moyo praised President Mnangagwa and pledged continued loyalty to serving the country.
“I feel deeply humbled by this investiture ceremony, which marks a new development in my life and, indeed, in my career.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, for promoting me to the rank of Lt Gen.
“I feel greatly honoured, and I view this as recognition of my illustrious and dedicated 46 years of service to our great country.”
The event was attended by commanders and senior officers from the Zimbabwe National Army, the Air Force of Zimbabwe, among other Service Chiefs.
