PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA yesterday congratulated his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, on the occasion of his 71st birthday, saying the leader of the world’s second-biggest economy has played a crucial role in enhancing bilateral relations between Harare and Beijing.

President Xi was born on June 15, 1953 in Beijing, China.

In a statement, President Mnangagwa said: “On the occasion of your 71st birthday, may I, on behalf of my party, ZANU PF, Government, the people of Zimbabwe, and indeed on my own behalf, wish you, Your Excellency, happy felicitations, good health and many more years of personal success and that of your great people and nation.

“As we mark and celebrate this joyous and blessed day, I note with great satisfaction the excellent bilateral relations between our two sister Republics, acknowledge with deep gratitude your personal interest and effort towards their furtherance.”

He added: “Going forward, I have no doubt, Your Excellency, that our relations will continue to grow and expand in scope as our two Governments and peoples explore new areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.”

In April 2018, Zimbabwe and China agreed to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership involving the two countries.
