PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has elevated a senior Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officer Senior Assistant Commissioner Shepherd Mpofu to the position of Deputy Commissioner-General.
He replaces Deputy Comm-Gen Huggins Machingauta, who retired early this year. In a statement, ZPCS national spokesperson chief correctional officer Meya Khanyezi said the appointment was effective from June 13 this year.
“The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has in terms of Section 9(1) (b) of the Prisons Act (Chapter 7:11) promoted Senior Assistant Commissioner Shepherd Mpofu to the rank of Deputy Commissioner-General with effect from 13 June 2019,” reads the statement.
Deputy Commissioner-General Mpofu was the officer commanding Matabeleland South Province before his recent promotion. Deputy Commissioner Mpofu becomes the fourth Deputy Commissioner-General.
Comm-Gen Retired Major General Willings Paradzai Zimondi works with four deputies responsible for human resources, administration, correctional services and audit, and the Inspectorate department.
Deputy Comm-Gen Mpofu joined ZPCS in 1996 and rose through the ranks to the current position.
He was born on June 12, 1973 in Bulawayo where he attended Mbizo Primary School and Emakhandeni Primary School in Bulawayo. He did his secondary education at Emakhandeni Secondary School
Deputy Comm-Gen Mpofu holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Management) degree from Solusi University.
