PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is expected to deliver the 2026 State of the Nation Address and officially open the Fourth Session of the 10th Parliament at the new Parliament building in Mt Hampden tomorrow.
The address will be held in line with constitutional requirements.
The President will set the legislative agenda for the new Session during his address to the nation.
Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda informed the nation of the event under General Notice 1866 of 2026 titled, “Notice of Official Opening of Parliament and SONA”, in last Friday’s Government Gazette.
“It is hereby notified for public information that His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026, 2pm will: (a) address a joint sitting of the Senate and the National Assembly in terms of section 140 (1) of the Constitution, during which he will set out Government’s legislative agenda for the Fourth Session of the 10th
Parliament and (b) in terms of section 140 (4) the Constitution, deliver SONA,” Advocate Mudenda said.
The two political parties represented in Parliament, Zanu PF and the CCC, last week hailed the passage of the Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3, saying it was an historic achievement in Parliament since 2013 when the country adopted a new Constitution.
The CAA3 received bipartisan support, with 226 voting for it in the National Assembly and only 41 against, while in the Senate 75 voted in favour of the Amendment and only four opposed.
Parliamentary Portfolio Committees tabled 54 reports during the last session with 16 of them being on quarterly budget performance of ministries, public petitions and other inquiries.
The legislature also passed seven other Bills apart from the CAA3, namely the IATFCO Entities Hosting Amendment, Insurance and Pensions Commission Amendment, Medical Services Amendment, Zimbabwe School Examination Council Amendment, Tourism, Constitution of
Zimbabwe Amendment (No.3), Occupational Safety and Health, and Climate Change Management Act.
Another huge and historic milestone of the third session was the launch of the Committee for the Future, which will be tasked with anticipating and preparing for any future developments to enable the country to respond accordingly and not be caught off-guard.
