President Mugabe is today expected to officially launch the Capacity Development Programme for Teachers to provide opportunities for teachers to improve their skills.Addressing a press conference yesterday, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Lazarus Dokora said capacity development for teachers was a vehicle and tool whose purpose was to ensure that teachers were able to improve their skills.

“The programme is a vehicle to ensure we can provide an opportunity for gaining skills that will impact on the delivery of the curriculum,” he said.

“We are awaiting Cabinet decision to begin the consultation process for the final phase of the curriculum review and we will then move to the implementation phase.

“So, for us this is the key aspect underpinning future development of the education system. That’s why we have asked the President to be there.”

Hundreds of teachers, university students and other institutions are expected to attend the function together with officials from the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development.

Popular musician Bob Nyabinde is expected to entertain guests together with choirs from different schools.
