President to preside over GZU graduation

President Mnangagwa is today expected to preside over the Great Zimbabwe University’s (GZU) 18th graduation ceremony at the institution’s main campus near Masvingo Teachers’ College.

Over 4 400 students are expected to graduate at the ceremony after successfully completing their studies, as GZU continues to entrench its position as one of the biggest and most prestigious state-owned institutions of higher learning in Zimbabwe.

The university’s Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo said all was set for the institution’s graduation ceremony.

“The graduation ceremony is set for tomorrow (today) at the main campus and our Chancellor President Dr E.D Mnangagwa will preside over it,” said Professor Zvobgo.

He said initial plans for President Mnangagwa to officiate at the GZU’s 18th graduation ceremony and also commission the institution’s re-opened Mashava University Teaching Hospital, have been changed.

“Tomorrow (today) the only event will be GZU’s 18th graduation ceremony where the President will preside and there is going to be nothing else. The commissioning of our teaching hospital in Mashava is now going to be done separately (on another future date),” he said.

According to Prof Zvobgo the rationale behind shelving of the initial plans was to make sure the glamour of opening the teaching hospital was not diluted.

“What we have done in Mashava (GZU Teaching Hospital) is a very important development that will have a huge impact on the province’s health delivery system and the nation at large.”
