The Zvishavane community is relieved following the drilling of boreholes under the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme, a programme that aims to drill over 35 000 boreholes accross the country.
The programme has so far benefited thousands of people in both urban and rural areas, in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of making sure that no place and no one is left behind as the country marches forward to attain Vision 2030.

Villagers in Zvishavane expressed gratitude to the President for providing them with clean sources of water, especially now, amid the cholera crisis bedeviling the country.
Several solar powered tapped boreholes were drilled in the area to avert the dire situation, moving in line with Section 77 of the national Constitution which provides that every citizen has the right to safe, clean and potable water.

With at least five Presidential boreholes having been drilled coupled with nutritional gardens in the Zvishavane environs, the community is in cloud nine as it is now also engaging in horticulture.
Prevail International Group contracted by Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) to drill a borehole in each village countrywide undertook the project.
A beneficiary, Mr Tapiwa Makomo of Zvishavane was at loss of words due to the kind gesture by President Mnangagwa.

“We have been facing acute water shortages which have been seeing many walking for many kilometres to fetch clean water.
“The boreholes will go a long way in addressing the water challenges in our area and we applaud President Mnangagwa for giving us safe, clean and potable water. We were now fearing for the lives of our children especially in this time when Cholera is ravaging the country,” he said.
Another resident of Zvishavane, Mrs Irene Zinyama said the President’s kind gesture will benefit many women, who bear the brunt of fetching water for their families.
“As women we no longer have the burden of fetching water from far away sources. All villagers now have access to clean potable water, thanks to our President who is fulfilling his promises,” she said.
The boreholes are also providing economic opportunities to the community as they are now engaging in horticulture following the drilling of solar powered boreholes and setting up of nutritional gardens.
A youth in the area Sheila Manhenga said the solar-poweredd boreholes will not only provide clean water, but will also provide a source of livelihood for many unemployed youths who will engage in horticulture.
“Since we now have readily available water, we are now establishing a nutritional garden. The produce from the garden will be sold to the local community and the proceeds will uplift our community.
“President Mnangagwa is really a visionary leader who is keeping up with the vision of development and uplifting the lives of all Zimbabweans regardless of place,” she said.
