THE Chisumbanje community has found a fresh source of pride in Premier Soccer League outfit, Greenfuel.
The Ethanol Boys have not only managed to arrest a four-match winless streak but also provided two players for Zimbabwe’s COSAFA Cup squad.
Tinotenda Meke (20) and Denzel Mapuwa (19) are part of the 22-man squad currently in South Africa for the COSAFA tournament.
Greenfuel head coach, Saul Chaminuka, is also part of the Warriors’ technical set up.
Meke is a highly-rated winger who joined Greenfuel from Cranborne Bullets early this year while Mapuwa is a Legends Academy product with a sharp eye for goal.
Chaminuka will be missing from the bench when the Ethanol Boys face inconsistent Dynamos at Rufaro on Sunday.
Assistant coach, Taurai Mangwiro, will be in charge.
However, that is not the main point of interest in Chisumbanje.
The fact that Greenfuel have two players in the COSAFA Cup squad has got the locals, including club chairman Fredson Moyo, excited.
“It’s a source of pride and excitement for me as the chairman and the entire Greenfuel FC stakeholders when our players Tino Meke and Denzel Mapuwa and Head Coach Saul Chaminuka are chosen to represent the national team,” Moyo told Zimpapers Sport.
“Greenfuel managed to bring Premiership football to Chisumbanje, which was a historic achievement.
“The club will provide a platform for budding footballers in the area.
“The fact that we are now having players in the national team is a testament to the players’ hard work and talent, and a reflection of the club’s dedication to developing top-notch players.
“Fans and community members often feel a sense of ownership and joy seeing one of their own representing their country on the regional stage.
“It’s a moment to celebrate and cheer for the players, the club, and the country!”
Greenfuel are currently 11th on the table with 20 points from 16 games.
They have five wins, five draws and six losses.
