Afro fusion musician, Claire Nyakujara and the upcoming star Prince Musarurwa gave spirited performances at the Book Café over the weekend.
The songstress, who is also a good guitarist sent the audience to their dancing paces with some of her songs like “Tinotenda”, “Zvandaona” and “Famba Neni”.
She performed a number of cover songs and dedicated the popular South African song “Jabulani” to the late Sam Mtukudzi whose fourth death anniversary was on Saturday.

In an interview with the Herald Entertainment, Nyakujara said she was working on new single that would feature on her upcoming album.
“I am working on a single titled ‘Sahwira Wangu’ with Patience Musa that will be out any day from now and I am also putting final touches on my forthcoming album,” she said.

Musarurwa who featured on Pah Chihera’s hit song “Runonzi Rudo” excited fans with his energetic dances and songs.
He sang some of his songs that include “Uri Mharadzi”. He also performed some of Mtukudzi’s songs like “Chimusoro” and “Ziwerere”.

He was later joined on stage by urban grooves songbird Diana Samkange to perform their latest song “Tirikure Murudo” that is doing well on most radio stations.

While the musicians’ acts were commendable, it is disappointing how they keep relying on established artistes’ songs to keep their audience on the dance floor.

Claire threw in Tracey Chapman’s “Crossroads” while Musarurwa sang Tuku’s songs.
As the evening progressed, celebrations to mark the Book Café’s second year at their current venue hit its peak.

Headlining the gig was Tariro neGitare, Ba Shupi (real name Peace Ndlovu) and his band the ‘A’ Team.
Tariro performed “Uripi”, “Ndokuda Iwe” and “African Girl” while Ba Shupi kept the audience dancing with “Ma1”, “Twunonaka” and “Chocolate”.

At the backstage were a special one-off father and son blues and jazz reunion performance from Paul and Thomas Brickhill backed by The Real Deal and the group Chikwata 263.

Book Café programming manager Thomas Brickhill said: “We are happy to be celebrating our second birthday remembering that it took us time to complete the garden stage and now the whole place is being fully utilised”.
