PRISON inmates have been allowed to make calls, receive and send money to their loved ones during their incarceration, H-Metro has established.
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi spoke to H-Metro yesterday ahead of the Harare Agricultural Show roaring into life today.
Ass-Comm Khanyezi said the facility was amplified in line with the rehabilitation and Correctional aspect in partnership with the Commissary System.
The system is expected to benefit inmates starting today.
“We want to thank relatives and friends of inmates who have been visiting our Prisons across the country during a Family Week.
“Although the family week ended yesterday, Commissioner General of Prison, Moses Chihobvu, promised another two days of family days to anyone who visits ZPCS stand at the Harare Agricultural Show.
“This applies to those with relatives and friends, who are serving their sentences in Prisons.
“As for communication, we are introducing Commissary System (Calling App and Online shopping platform) where relatives can send money and call their relatives and loved ones in prison, as well as buy groceries for them from anywhere around the world,” said Ass-Comm Khanyezi.
ZPCS is running under the theme “Cultivating prosperity from bars to business building, new horizons” and it is inter-twinning with the ZAS.
