A COURT in Bulawayo has slammed the cell doors shut on three inmates who turned a prison dormitory into a house of horror after they gang-assaulted and sodomised a 20-year-old fellow inmate in a sickening late-night attack.
Bhekimpilo Sinyoro (30), Thabo Ncube (24), and Arnold Chemhere (29) appeared before Magistrate Beverly Madzikatire and were each slapped with 20-year sentences for their roles in the gruesome prison assault that shocked fellow inmates and prison officials alike.
The twisted attack occurred on 29 December last year inside a prison cell that was supposed to be a place of correction. Instead, it became the setting for a brutal act of violence and humiliation.
According to State Prosecutor, Sinyoro approached the 20-year-old victim and asked him to come and sleep near him. The victim declined. But the rejection didn’t sit well with Sinyoro, who returned moments later with his co-accused, Ncube.
The pair dragged the terrified young man across the cell to their sleeping area. They unleashed a calculated and disturbing assault. Chemhere allegedly pinned the victim down and covered his face with a blanket to muffle his screams. Sinyoro then reportedly undressed him, and in full view of the others, sodomised the helpless victim while the other two held him down.
After the horrifying ordeal, in a twisted attempt to calm the situation, the trio reportedly offered their victim a plate of rice and beans.
The brave complainant later reported the abuse, sparking a swift investigation and arrest.
The court heard that the psychological trauma suffered by the victim was “immeasurable,” and the magistrate described the assault as “barbaric and cruel.”
The three convicts will now spend an extra 20 years behind bars, with no possibility of parole for their predatory behaviour.
It was not stated in court, why the trio is in prison in the first place.
