Prison officer in court for raping girlfriend

NO sex before marriage! These are words that a Ntabazinduna-based prison officer whispered to his girlfriend when they first fell in love in February. However, seven months later, the officer broke his chastity vow when he allegedly tricked his girlfriend into spending a night with her during which he allegedly went on to rape her.

Regional magistrate Trynos Utahwashe heard how on the night of September 6, 2013, Givemore Muzariri, 29, of  Cowdray Park, woke up and caressed his girlfriend before raping her at a lodge in Bulawayo.

Prosecuting, Robin Mukura told the court that on the fateful night, Muzariri and the complainant booked at a local lodge.

The court was told that on the following day at about 2am, Muzariri woke up and started caressing his girlfriend before demanding to have sex with her.

The complainant refused to indulge in sexual intercourse and reminded her boyfriend about the promises they made when they first met, the court heard.

However, Muzariri would have none of it and he allegedly pinned down the complainant and raped her.
Soon after the incident, the complainant reported the matter to the police leading to Muzariri’s arrest.

Muzariri was remanded in custody to today for continuation of trial.
