Prison officers steal $3,000

TWO Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services officers broke into a canteen at Ntabazinduna training depot and got away with $3,894. Acting ZPCS Matabeleland regional public relations officer, Senior Prison Officer (SPO) Bothwell Bosha, said the duo broke into the canteen under the cover of darkness on Sunday, broke the safe and took away the money. “We don’t have much detail about how they gained entry and accessed the safe,” SPO Bosha told Chronicle.

“It was discovered the following day that there was a break-in and the money was missing. The suspects have since been arrested and they happen to be officers within the organisation.”

SPO Bosha said the suspects were taken to court on Wednesday,  and were remanded in custody at Khami Prison to December 11.
“Investigations are being carried out over the issue and the police are handling that matter,” he said.
